Don’t you love seeing local kids in the news for good reasons? Spencerport, NY is local to me, which is why this message of smart science and common sense gladdens my heart…
The Spencerport CSD is one of hopefully many institutions exploring a change to school start times. Obviously, the logistics required to manage a complex matrix of too many students, too many extracurricular activities, and too few buses demand UPS-level efficiency without the huge market cap or snazzy brown outfits. District resources can only stretch so far, especially when life would be so much easier for everyone else if teens could, you know, get to sleep at a decent hour.
Alas, they cannot.
As a certified night owl, I know how it feels when your circadian rhythms won’t meet your professional obligations halfway. Too many teens are simply wired to stay up late, with little that they or anyone else can do about it, despite the inconvenience. Expecting the adults in this scenario to make a change seems sensible, so keep those fingers crossed.
That said, relief from the tyranny of crack-of-dawn schooldays isn’t coming any time soon, which makes insufficient sleep a personal problem and one you cannot afford to ignore:
So, if your goal is better grades, higher scores, and greater learning outcomes, find a way get enough sleep, even if your school doesn’t care!
QUICK NOTES
Last week’s Brighton SAT/ACT Boot Camp was postponed for, what else, prom. That means all Rochester-area students can still lock in 6 solid hours of prep for the June exams on May 27-29 from 3:30-6:30pm.
Do you have a Game Plan for the Enhanced ACT? You can get one for free by attending the webinar I’m co-hosting on May 28 with the awesome Amy Seeley. Register for either the 1-2pm or 7-8pm webinars and tell your friends and colleagues.
